"You don't understand," explained an unnamed player on injured reserve. "Kobe owns this town. Piss him off and suddenly you find your cable has been turned off, you can't get hot water, no one will take your dinner reservation, you can't even get a babysitter ... hell, you can't even score a dime bag of weed. But the guys know that, at the end of the day, Phil's got their back."

As if on cue, Phil Jackson's first response to a reporter's unrelated question was to pose a hypothetical. "Did Michael ever let his team squander a 24-point lead at the half in a meaningful game, let alone Game 4 in the NBA Finals? Not that I can recall." Jackson's comment prompted furtive grins and covert fist pumps, as Bryant's teammates savored the payback -- knowing full well Bryant would be spending the next several days in agitated isolation, drop-kicking his vast collection of M.J. memorabilia, immersed in a self-loathing funk.

Comment on Food Ballers...They Rule My World

East Coast bias anybody? Jean Georges has to get a mention since it seems almost every upper and comer is tied to him or Boulud at some point. If the Federal Trade Commission were assessing “truth in statements” on articles and blogs, this Men’s Health posting would have the FTC knocking on their door.

When trying to make a point, guys, at least get your facts straight. If you’re going to compare a “serving size” of soda, which is 12 ounces, then compare that to a serving size of other beverages. Since you decided to put VitaminWater at the top of the list, let’s go with that one. A serving size of VitaminWater is 8 ounces. Just check out the label. In those 8 ounces, we’re only talking about 50 calories and 13 grams of sugar (not the 130 calories and 33 grams of sugar you’re showing). Now compare that with the 12 ounces of soda you’re discussing in your article. That serving size, as stated on a label, has about 150 calories and 40 grams of sugar. Big difference!

Sometimes plain water doesn’t quench one’s thirst as well as a slightly sweetened beverage. I emphasize the words “slightly sweetened” because overly sweet drinks can encourage overdoing it. People will sometimes take a sip or two of water, thinking that’ll do it when their bodies actually need more liquids to be properly hydrated. VitaminWater is an electrolyte-enhanced water that’s made with a natural sweetener, natural colors, and natural flavors, flavors that really do taste like the fruit they come from. Because of that, people will tend to drink enough to stay hydrated.

I also like the fact that all of the varieties of VitaminWater are made with no artificial sweeteners, no chemical preservatives and no sodium. It’s even gluten-free, vegan-friendly and ou kosher.

I’m glad to see that Zinczenko and Goulding believe, as they say, vitamins and water are a good “nutritional tag team “ because VitaminWaters contain vitamin C, four of the B vitamins, magnesium, and potassium. There’s no question that we need to be eating healthy food to get the majority of our daily nutritional needs, but the best thing we can do is to be sure that everything we eat and drink has some nutritional benefits. Otherwise, we’re just eating empty calories. For example, gummy bears or jelly beans are just pure sugar and that just means empty calories.

In my next posting to this blog, I’ll discuss the other beverages that were attacked and tell you my thoughts on those.

Comment on Pretty Cool, I Guess...

I saw this clip on The Corner and wondered if you aren't getting a bit too comfortable with the enemy.
